Cement is one of the most commonly used building materials. It is made of natural raw materials: marl, limestone and clay. After firing in a cement kiln, a clinker is formed which has been mixed with gipsum (sometimes it is additionally mixed with lime stone, fly ash or slag). The Name "portland cement" allegedly refers to the color of the rocks on the island of Portland, where its inventor lived - Joseph Aspdin.
